Tracing Dub Echoes: Social Resistance through DIY Technology

Ondřej Daniel

This talk aims to trace vectors of cultural transfer of dub music into the Czech space. Under the heading of solidarity, we find not only state and party-controlled narratives but also subcultural efforts to respond to community racism. Czech adaptations of dub primarily reflected aesthetic distinctions; only later did these communities begin to insist on specific lifestyles, partly shared with other taste-based subcultures.
